Short Walk on a Long Pier
I’ve yet to capture a sunset at Emerald Bay, it’s two hours round trip from my front door, and it’s been photographed to death by everyone, which puts the image on my "maybe someday” list. But people always ask for the image, so I’ve made a few attempts to capture the proverbial perfect sunset. One lovely summer afternoon, the clouds teased me by lofting over the mirrored lake, taunting me to come out and play. Knowing their fickle propensity for evaporating into thin air or collapsing into the horizon at sunset, I crossed my fingers and started driving. Halfway there I noticed a pristine pier lining up with the pre-sunset clouds. Ruby came to a dead stop in the middle of the road and ejected me from my seat. I took a short walk up the pier for a handheld shot and jumped back in Ruby to chase the sunset which completely fizzled out. But I came home with one of my favorite images of our beautiful Lake Tahoe. Always stop when you see something beautiful.
