Everything in this world shifts when you change your perspective. Pause and look up, lay on your back and watch the clouds. Look deeply in the branches which tower overhead and find the birds which call to you to spread your wings and fly. Choose to see the beauty in the world, immerse in nature, believe in magic. And Know that your perception of this world is your reality.
When I lived in the mountains above South Reno, I had to drive 35 minutes to the Lake for sunset. My evenings revolved around the possibility of photographing the perfect sunset. I probably spent at least fifteen hours a week capturing a few minutes of color. In fact, if I was out to dinner and the lenticulars were rolling over the Sierras, I’d start to feel anxious because I was missing a sunset. I'll admit it, I was a sunset addict. It took me a few years to break the habit, but I’ve found that there’s more to life than sunset. Yes I know that as a photographer that’s heresy, but it’s true. There’s pre and post sunset. This image is from a night where the pre sunset was much more striking than the actual sunset. I had been stalking this location for a few weeks praying for the perfect conditions and this was it. The serene water perfectly mirrored angelic clouds and blue skies. My intention was to capture light, and I watched as it manifested right in front of me.
Last night I headed to this location, first of all to take Diamond for a walk along the shoreline, and second, to perhaps capture a beautiful sunset. The light happened on another side of the shore line, but while I set up my tripod here last night, I dropped one of my ski gloves, (a huge necessity this time of the year), down into a crack in the rocks. I got down on my belly to reach down as far as I could into the crack, but to no avail. So...tonight, I headed back to the same place, primarily to retrieve my glove, (with tongs), and witnessed the last sunset of 2018. Happy New Year !
